After a thorough technical review of three competing specimen radiography systems, Siemens AG has chosen the Faxitron DX-50 Core™ as the unit it will co-market along with its MammoTest stereotactic table and NovationDR and Inspiration mammography systems. “In the end, it was the superior image quality of Faxitron’s single-piece CMOS camera and the ease and robustness of their PACS connection that were the deciding factors,” says Siemens Richard Baune, product manager for accessory solutions of the company’s Healthcare Sector, Workflow & Solutions Division. “The tiled camera offered by the competitors did not produce the same high-quality images as the DX-50. We also found that the Faxitron DX-50 perfectly complements the examination workflow with the Siemens Healthcare Mammo systems. Our goal is to increase the quality of patient care and at the same time lower health care costs. We are confident that offering the DX-50 as an important accessory to our women’s imaging product line will provide an additional resource to help us reach this goal.” Download Complete Press Release
Version 1.6 of Company’s Specimen Radiography Software Also Debuts
Lincolnshire, IL – Faxitron X-Ray LLC has introduced a new digital core specimen radiography system. Named the DX-50 Core™, the unit features a new, 20 lp/mm camera and is intended for dedicated use in the stereotactic suite. “The widespread and growing use of vacuum-assisted biopsy devices has resulted in a trend toward extraction of fewer cores,” notes Faxitron Vice President Business Development & Marketing Brad Jackson. “Our new system is perfect for this application.”
The compact DX-50 Core system can be located directly in the stereotactic suite, only steps from the stereo table. The self-contained system produces high-resolution digital images in seconds that can be viewed on the flat panel monitor to ensure that the core specimens contain a representative sample of microcalcifications. The images can also be sent to a PACS network for archiving and hardcopy printing. If portability is required for use in multiple suites, the DX-50 Core is available mounted on a heavy-duty cart.
At the same time, the company has introduced the latest version of its specimen radiography software, SR 1.6, that allows annotations to be stored to PACS. In addition, an automated calibration feature provides quick and easy, one-click calibration.

WHEELING, Illinois (March 28, 2008) – Faxitron X-Ray LLC (Faxitron) today announced that it has fulfilled a five system irradiator order through AcroBio, the company's local distributor in Tokyo, Japan. Four of the five systems are RX-650 x-ray irradiators. The units will be used for feeder cell irradiation. The compact size and moderate price of the RX-650 make it ideal for dedicated feeder cell work.
"We continue to see strong demand for x-ray irradiators," notes Don Kissock, Vice President, International Sales. "The footprint, cost, and safety of x-ray systems make them a very attractive alternative to heavy, expensive, and high maintenance gamma (radioisotopic) irradiators." Cesium irradiators have fallen under scrutiny of late due to reports suggesting that the accessibility of the radioactive cesium poses a potential security risk.
